European Award for Research Team

The European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS) presented the "Vascular Young Investigator Award" 2018 to the clinical research team led by heart surgeon and Heisenberg Professor Christian D. Etz at its annual meeting in Milan (18-20 October 2018).

In front of international experts, Dr. Konstantin von Aspern from the working group, presented the cooperation project between the Heisenberg Professorship for Aortic Surgery and PAPAartis, currently located at the University of Leipzig. The PAPAartis trial is one of the largest publicly funded clinical studies worldwide on the prevention of spinal cord damage during aortic surgery. It is funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) with a total of 8.5 million euros. The award-winning study is a valuable addition to PAPAartis and investigates the optimal pattern of minimally invasive segmental artery occlusion in preparation for aortic replacement.
